David (Dave) Byers, AMFT

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) registered associate working under licensed supervision with the goal of obtaining my MFT license with the California Board of Behavioral Science. My growing focus is working with individuals and couples with histories of trauma and attachment issues. I have 15 years experience prior to my degree working overseas with German and western European youth and families in the areas of support, counseling, and expressive arts in a non-clinical setting. I care deeply about helping individuals, couples, and families feel heard in their struggles and discover how they can experience post-traumatic growth to live fully alive in their relationships. I use EMDR, Expressive Arts, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and other attachment-based approaches to help people move toward healing and reduce suffering.

EMDR is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms.

Expressive Arts therapy emphasizes trauma repair and recovery through the exploration and discovery of expanding capabilities. It also underscores how creative expression connects us to ourselves and to others.

EFT is a scientifically proven method for working with couples. It improves the attachment bond and helps to create more satisfying relationships. Couples often find that they feel more loved and more supported when each learns how to bond with their partner in healthy ways. Couples can gain a deeper understanding and emotional connection with each other. Often parenting and family dynamics improve, too. I have advanced training using this method.
